Video ▶ Watch lesson 1 video Close Definition of Leadership Here is a simple definition of leadership, originally from Dwight Eisenhower: Let's pull that definition apart. Click each phrase for the breakdown: Leadership is the art of getting someone else to do something you want done because they want to do it. Close Leadership is part science (meaning there is research behind some parts of it) and part art. Close Leadership involves working through others through motivation and inspiration, and good leaders know how and when to use both. Close You can't really get someone to do something unless you actually know what that "something" is. This implies clear goals and a pathway to success. If you don't have both, the odds are that you won't be successful in your endeavors. Close Think about this part for a moment. The fact that you want it done is great, but you have to motivate someone to actually want to do it. This takes on a lot of different implications as we will see throughout this course.
